How to choose a defibrillator

All the AEDs we offer are certified and effective. The differences lie in ease of use, additional features and running costs.

1. Fully automatic or semi-automatic

For public places, where an AED may be used by a passer-by, we recommend the fully automatic version – it removes any hesitation about pressing a button. Our recommended iPAD CU-SP1 and both Primedic HeartSave YA models are fully automatic. The semi-automatic ZOLL AED Plus is a good choice for trained teams.

2. CPR feedback

Good-quality chest compressions are just as important as the shock. The ZOLL AED Plus with Real CPR Help® measures compression depth and rate and tells you if you need to push harder or faster. The iPAD CU-SP1 helps you keep the right rhythm with a CPR metronome.

3. Screen or voice prompts

All models guide the rescuer with voice prompts in Latvian or Estonian. The Primedic HeartSave YA is also available with a 4.3″ colour screen that shows each step as an animation.

4. Children

On the iPAD CU-SP1, child mode can be set as the default – convenient for schools and kindergartens. All models have a child mode or paediatric pads.

5. Running costs

Compare not only the price of the device but also the price and shelf life of the pads and battery over an 8–10 year period. Read about the total cost of a defibrillator.

6. Where to keep it

Indoors, a wall bracket or a cabinet with an alarm is enough. For outdoor placement in the Latvian climate, a heated cabinet is essential.
